Br. John Vianney Russell, OP. - Student Brother

Br. John Vianney was born in Pasadena, California. While studying at St. Mary’s College of California he experienced a reversion to the faith due to the works of St. Thomas Aquinas. 

After college he attended law school at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. It was there that he first met the Dominicans and was immediately attracted to their way of life: living in community, studying theology and philosophy, contemplating God’s love, and sharing the fruits of our community, study, and contemplation with others.

He felt a growing desire to serve the Church through priestly ministry and by explaining teachings of the Church that many people see as obstacles to God’s love. As he learned more about the Dominican charism he decided to apply and entered the novitiate in August 2020. He is overjoyed to be able to minister to the Newman Center this year.

He enjoys apologetics, backpacking, the ocean, and glorious victory on the volleyball court.
